Quality managers, also called quality assurance(QA) or quality control managers develop processes and procedures to promote quality achievement and performance improvement regarding product or service. The QA manager monitors, reports and gives advice regarding company performance against set indicators and performance of the quality management system.
Quality managers work in a wide range of companies, from food processing companies to transport businesses. Across all sectors, the purpose is to achieve a standard of product or service which meets client expectations.Typical assignments include:
working with other managers and departments to define client requirements
analysing business statistics to measure performance against in-house and external standards
auditing and documenting areas of weakness and proposing solutions
inspecting, sampling and testing production process to check product quality
reviewing existing policies and setting up plans to improve quality systems
making sure procedures conform to legislation (such as Equal Opportunities), or meet national quality standards such as Investors in People
consulting with staff and working with training departments to put plans into effect
reviewing and assessing the effectiveness of changes.
